Please Pray for Father Gregory Heidenblut, OSA

Please keep Fr. Greg Heidenblut in your thoughts and prayers.  He said the Traditional Latin Mass many times for our community when we were at Mission San Buenaventura.  At the time, Fr. Greg was the President of Villa Nova Preparatory School in Ojai.  It appears that he has suffered a mild heart-attack in the evening of Monday 2/24.  He is in an Oakland area Hospital near where he is the current pastor of Our Lady of Grace in Castro Valley.  Please pray that Our Lord's healing hand will touch Fr. Greg and restore his good health.

Homily - Fifth Sunday after Epiphany - February 9, 2014

Col. 3:12-17; Mt. 13-24-30

Today’s Gospel comes from the section in St. Matthew where our Lord encounters controversies with the religious leaders of the day, is rejected by them, and ultimately leads to His cross.  It raises a perennial question, why are there good and bad in the world?  And He gives us this parable of the wheat and the weeds.

Wyoming Catholic College Information Night

Come visit the evening of Wednesday, February 19th, 7:30 p.m. with Owen Sweeney, Director of Admissions at Wyoming Catholic College. Opening its doors in 2007, Wyoming Catholic already has developed a national reputation for its unique liberal arts program, which integrates mind, body, and soul through study of the Great Books, leadership training in the wilderness, and formation in faithful Catholic spirituality. Mr. Sweeney will speak for about 30 minutes and thereafter answer any questions you may have about WCC and its P.E.A.K. and brand new P.E.A.K. ASCENT high school summer programs.  (Have a senior not yet settled on college?  It's not too late to think about WCC for 2014-15!)

This Wyoming Catholic College Information Night will be hosted at the home of Debbie & Leo Raab in Camarillo.  To R.S.V.P. & get directions, email lcraab@earthlink.net or call 805-987-8773.

Homily - Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary - February 2, 2014

Mal. 3:1-4; Lk. 2:22-32

Today’s Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary takes place forty days after Christmas.  Fortuitously, it occurs on a Sunday this year, so that we can all celebrate it.  This feast has been observed from time immemorial.  The first written record we have of it is in the 380s from a pilgrim who returned from Jerusalem.  It coincides with Presentation of the Lord in the Temple.  Both the Blessed Mother and the Lord are presented as an expression of that faith and docility before God and religion whereby we enter into the promise and plan of salvation.  Hence, it is a feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary but it is also a feast of the Lord.  This shows the close association of the Blessed Mother with our Lord in the work of salvation and her unique role in salvation history, recognized from the beginning.
